Obit:
Loyce Nicholas, 94, of Texarkana, AR., died November 19, 2002 at a local nursing center. Mr. Nicholas was born September 25, 1908 in Stamps, AR to James Maurry and Claude Armstrong Nicholas. At the age of 17, he attended barber school at Little Rock in 1926 and was the youngest certified barber in the state at that time. After barbering in Stamps, AR for two years, he went to work in Texarkana and was a barber for the next 56 years. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and was a deacon there also. He was the chairman of the committee that built Calvary Baptist Church at Hays and Orleans St. which later became Cornerstone Baptist Church. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #341 for over 50 years. Mr. Nicholas was active in politics. He was elected to serve on Texarkana Arkansas Board of Directors for a total of eight years, 1953-1961, This was during the time Haskell Hay was in office as mayor of Texarkana, AR. He will be remembered by many friends as a kind and caring man who would help anyone he could. And most of all, he was a loving and devoted family man. His family will always treasure his memory. He was preceded in death by one sister, Jimmie Nicholas of Prescott, AR. He is survived by his loving wife of over 69 years, Mozelle Nicholas. One son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Gayle Nicholas. One sister Ruby Ferguson and three grandchildren, Angela Howell, Cheryl Nicholas, PatrickNicholas and four great grandchildren, Samantha and Dalton Howell and Chelsey and Noah Nicholas. Services will be 1:00 p.m. today at Texarkana Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Albrecht and Rev. William V Garner officiating. Burial will be in East Memorial Gardens.

He was a retired barber, former member of Texarkana,Ark., Board of Directors and member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, where he was a deacon, and Masonic Lodge 341. Survivors include his wife, Mozelle Nicholas of Texarkana; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Gayle Nicholas of Texarkana; one sister, Ruby Ferguson of Texarkana; three grandchildren, Angela Howell, Cheryl Nicholas and Patrick Nicholas; and four great-grandchildren. Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at Texarkana Funeral Home Fuqua-Everett Memorial Chapel with the Revs. Jimmy Albrecht and William V. Garner officiating. Burial will be in East Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
