Dr. J. Bradley Griffin, 59, died Monday, Jan. 4, 2010. Born in Houston, he was the son of the late Dr. John Wilder and Tommie Jo Smith Griffin of Corsicana. A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, he also graduated from the Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. He completed his residency in general surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina and his Vascular Fellowship at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. He was a retired physician who wrote numerous articles published in various medical journals.

A member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, he was also a past member of the Columbia Medical Society, South Carolina Medical Association, AMA, American Board of Vascular Surgery and was a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. An avid sportsman, he loved the outdoors and fishing, hunting and sporting clays. He loved the land and enjoyed farming and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Murtiashaw Griffin; children, Sarah Elizabeth Griffin and Charles Wilder Griffin; sisters, Connie Griffin of Fort Worth and Jennifer Griffin of Dallas; brother, Hall Griffin of Longview; cousin, Charles Leslie Smith of Palestine. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by paternal grandparents, Levi Hall and Alice Wilder Griffin of Hooks; maternal grandparents, Thomas Jefferson and Josephine Reeder Smith, also of Hooks.

A memorial service for Dr. Griffin will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, 2010, at Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Columbia, S.C. The family will receive friends following the service in the church parlor. A private family burial will be held at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 3200 Trenholm Road, Columbia, SC 29204; or a charity of oneĀ“s choice.
