Biography
Edith Jane Morgan was born March 16, 1877, near Akron, Harrison Co., Missouri, and died in St. Joseph, Missouri, October 8, 1920, aged 43 years, 6 months and 22 days.

In the early spring of 1883 she removed with her parents [Amos Morgan] to Bethany, Missouri, where she entered the public school and graduated with honors in 1895. After teaching in our rural schools for a few years, in order to prepare herself for greater work, she entered the state normal school at Kirksville, Mo., and after two years of careful preparation, she was elected to the faculty of the Bethany public schools, where for more than 12 years she was an efficient and conscientious instructor.

On July 24, 1918, she was married to William Roleke of this city and continued to make Bethany her home until her death. Their home life was sweet, their generous hospitality unbounded, and those who came into this home, went away feeling it was indeed good to have been there.

In early life she united with the Methodist Episcopal church and since has lived a consecrated Christian life. She was prominent in all the activities of the church, her large Sunday school class of boys was her pride, and her gentle, noble, Christian life will leave its impression on the years yet to come. In all her teaching her moto was, "Keep your eye on the star, look up, not down, and 'to thine own self be true'."

She leaves to mourn her loss a devoted husband, and Kathryn and Karl and wife [Susie], to whom she was especially attached, one brother, Max G. Morgan of Pearl, Mo., and three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Severe of Palmyra, Nebr., Mrs. Belle Wylie of Independence, Iowa, and Mrs. Mary Poland of this city. One sister, Mrs. Lou Eotz, passed to the Great Beyond a few years ago.

Her work is done, she had done what she could, she has gone to her reward. It is well.
